• Bought/adopted a pet but it’s not in my pets tab!
  Then the pet must be unnamed, check your Hatchery tab to find and name it
• 'Can other users hatch my eggs?'No, so no need for worries, only the owner can do the last turn for an egg and thereby hatch it.
  Don’t leave an egg unhatched for too long though as they will be automatically discarded if left unturned for 10 days. If left unturned for 5 days, a little exclamation mark will show in the corner of the eggs picture to warn you that the egg only have a few days left before being discarded.
• 'Enclosures to separate and organize my pets?Adding new enclosures

Click the "Edit" tab on the right hand side of your enclosure tab list, there you'll get a list of your current enclosures. If you're new, you'll only have the "Pets" one. You can easily add a new one by clicking the "New Enclosure" button at the bottom. After you've named it you'll see it below your "Pets" tab. To see the changes made to your enclosure, simply press the "Reload Enclosures" button and it will show all edits and take you to your newest enclosure.

You can also add new enclosures by going to a pets profile page, click the “Edit” button and then there you have the field set called “Enclosure”. There you click the “ + “ sign and a pop-up will appear asking you to name your new enclosure. Name it and it will appear in the bottom of your enclosure drop down menu, choose it and click "Update" and the pet will be moved there.

Moving pets into a new enclosure

To move other pets into a new enclosure, either grab their image with your mouse and drag and drop them to the name of your new enclosure or move them by choosing the new enclosure in the drop down menu in the “Edit” section and then click “Update”.

Merging/deleting Enclosures

To delete an enclosure, click the little trashcan icon on the right hand side of that enclosure. A pop up will ask you where you want to move any existing pets (even if it's empty) and you ca that way merge an enclosure with another very easily.

Adding presentations to enclosures

Simply click the "Edit" button and fill in the presentation as desired. You can add the same formatting and images/links to the enclosure presentations as you can to comments and posts in forums. To learn how to format presentations and comments, read the "Adding images and other formatting to comments?" section of the FAQ. 

• 'How do I feed/care for my pets?You feed your pets by clicking the “Feed” button in their profile, this doesn’t cost anything. The profile is the page you get to when you click the pets image or name which also contains links to the pets pedigree, color information etc.

When your pet only have 5 days of food left, a little exclamation mark in red will appear on your pets image to alert you that the pet in question needs feeding. Keep in mind that different OviPet species needs food at different frequency so keep an eye out for those exclamation marks.

If you're a paid user, you also have the option to "Mass Feed" your pets. Mass feed costs 1 credit per 6 pets always rounding up (so mass feeding 7 pets costs 2 credits and so does mass feeding 12 pets). Just click the button at the bottom of the tab to mass feed all your pets. If you have starving pets, a "Mass Feed Starving" button will appear at the top of the tab, to minimize the risk of a pet starving to death in the bottom of a big tab without you noticing it.

• 'How do I find new friends?You use the "Friend Finder" in the Search .
  Just click the "Find Users looking for new Friends" button and you will see all other people who've looked for friends in the past two hours. You yourself will also show up in this search for other users looking for new friends.

This way you can easily find active users who are looking for new friends to add to your friends list.

• 'How do I find pets availible for breed from other users?Go to the Search page. Select the species from the pictures and then to search for pets up for general breed trade (not for breed for a credit fee), just click the "Breed" button and it will bring up all pets available for breed with the other criteria you entered.

To search for pets for direct credit breed (even free breed pets available for direct breed for 0 credits), simply press the "Breed" button and a little "Max Price" area will pop out, enter your max price and search. This will only bring up pets available for direct breed with a price lower or equal to your max price set in your search.

Know that you can search for pets for breed not only from your friends but also from the different groups you're a member of by changing the "Friends" drop down to one of the groups.

• 'How do I find pets for trade/sale from other users?Go to the Search page. Select the species from the pictures and then to search for pets up for general Trade (not for sale for a credit fee), just click the "Trade" button and it will bring up all pets available for trade with the other criteria you entered.

To search for pets for direct credit sale, simply press the "Trade" button and a little "Max Price" area will pop out, enter your max price and search. This will only bring up pets available for direct buy with a price lower or equal to your max price set in your search.

• 'How do I get other species available in the search?To get a new species to show up in the search you have to research it. Some species are available right away for "free discovery", those you can just click the "discover" button in the Lab and then the species will be available to you in the search.

Other species you have to own before being able to research. To get them available, adopt one from the  Adoption Centeror from a friend and you can then research them to make them available to search for.
Yet other species are available instantly to research for paid users.  *How do I sell a pet?You can put pets up for general trade or for sale for a set credit price. You do this in the "Edit" section of the pet's Profile.

If you want to know who the pet goes to, maybe trade for other pets and/or breedings instead of just credits, just click the "Trade" button and the pet will be show as up for trade for other users (the little coin icon will appear on their image) other users will be able to send you different trade offers.

By pressing the "-" button next to the"Trade" icon you will get a popup in which you can set a sale price. Pets up for sale can be bought by any one of your friends or members in the same group as you directly, without opening a trade request and without approval from your side.

Setting the price of a pet to 0 credits, the pet will be put up for "Adoption" in your enclosure. Meaning anyone of your friends and or members in the same group as you can adopt the pet from you directly for free. To clarify, the pet will

not

be sent to the Adoption Center but will stay in your

enclosure/hatchery.

• • My pets died! Can I get them back?Yes of course! Just locate them using the Search, go to the "My Pets" tab and click the "Search Dead" button. Go to their profile and click the "resurrect" button.Pets cost 1 credit each to resurrect the first month they're dead, 5 credits the second month and 10 credits thereafter. After six months have past, they are no longer possible to resurrect.

'Organize my pets?'Organizing your pets is a very simple drag and drop procedure. Just click and hold the image of your pet and drag it to the desired location and let go. The pet will have moved to that new location.***Pets and genes, will OviPets be adding more?Yes! New pets and genes are constantly in the works behind the scenes here at OviPets.

You get more pets from the Adoption Center, by buying them from other users (you can Search for pets for trade in the search) or by generating them from your Lab page after you’ve discovered or researched the species in question.  ***Popularity Badges'The popularity badges are awarded when a pet gets a lot of likes.
20 likes - Popular = 50 likes - Very Popular = 100 likes - Extremely Popular =   ****The Adoption Center (AC), how does it work?
The Adoption Center is a great place to find ones first pet's. The pets in there are free, but you can only adopt one every 10 minutes.

It's refilled by generous players who sends their unwanted pets there for other players to adopt. You can send your pets there by going to their profile (click on the name), and click the "Edit" button. There you have an option called "Send To", when you click it you will have the option to either discard your pet (discarded pets can never be brought back into the game) or put it up for adoption. Once a pet is put up for adoption you can't retrieve it unless you get very lucky and manage to stumble upon it when it's available for adoption, so be careful when sending away pets so you don't regret it afterwards.
Our team can not bring back pets who have been sent to the Adoption Center.

• • • • 'Vacation mode, how does it work?Vacation mode is a button that can be found in your profile. When pressed it will suspend all activity on your account for the time needed, for a maximum of a year but for a minimum of 1 week - so don't turn it on if you don't need it. You can however exit vacation mode early for a fee.

When your account is in vacation mode your will not be able to interact with your pets or breed/trade etc. You will however still be able to use the feed to communicate with your friends. When in vacation mode your pets will get 100% food for for the duration of the vacation, but once vacation mode is turned off, it will all go back to the exact same state as when you turned it on. Meaning that if your pets where near starvation when you turn it on, they will still be so when you turn it off so be careful with that to make sure you don't loose any pets or eggs by mistake when you return.

All users on vacation mode will have a little red square on their profile image to let you know they can't trade/breed etc at that point.  ****Why don't the generator give me the colors I choose?
The generator does have a certain random element to it, this to not make it possible to just generate the perfect pet in a click. If you could do that, OviPets would quickly loose it's purpose as a breeding game, you're meant to have to breed to get the perfect pet and colors. You can however improve generator accuracy a bit by leveling up a species in the Lab.  ****Breeding for mutations? How are they inherited? What is dominance?All pets have a set number of base genes (such as their standard body/tails/ears etc) which all have 100 dominance. The lower the dominance, the more “recessive” a gene is, meaning the lower the number, genes with a higher dominance will show before that gene does if a pet carries two genes.

And then there are a large number of available mutations (the ones you can splice in and research for in the “Tech Trees” in the “Research” area on your Lab page) for each pet which all have different dominance. The first thing you need to know is that only genes on the same “loci” (for example “Tail”, “Ears”, “Wings”) interact. What tail your pet has doesn’t matter when you’re breeding for wings for example. You can see what “loci” a gene is located on when you go to an egg to splice it. There it will show up with first a body part name, for example: “Tail” (this is the “loci”) and then there will be the name of the gene just below it, for example “Double Tail”.

Say you have a Feline female which have a Normal Tail and a male mate which have a Double Tail. Now you wonder what will happen if you breed those two. The female will give a “Normal Tail gene” to the offspring and the father will give a “Double Tail gene”. This means that the offspring in that loci will have one Normal gene and one Double Tail gene as each loci always have two genes. Since the Normal gene is 100 dominant while the Double Tail is only 80 dominant, the Normal tail is what the offspring will show when hatched.

Here comes the fun part, like you know the father gave the offspring a Double Tail gene too, meaning that the offspring is a “carrier” of the Double Tail gene. Meaning that the pet you just bred has one such gene in its DNA, even if it’s not visible - if you breed that pet to another pet with a Double Tail, there’s a 50% chance that the carrier pet will give their offspring the Double Tail gene instead of its Normal Tail gene, and thereby giving that baby a visible Double Tail.

To make all this with genes, carried genes etc this a bit easier to understand what genes exactly your pet will show, we can use something called “Punnett Squares”. The Punnett square is a diagram that is used to predict an outcome of a particular cross or breeding experiment. It is named after Reginald C. Punnett, who devised the approach.

So to visualize the above. Let's call the Normal gene "+" and the Double Tail "D". So in this case our pet have a "+" gene from the mother, and a "D" gene from the father, making her tail loci look like this: "+D"

If we breed her to a pet with dominant double tail, this is how we can calculate the various outcomes of the breeding, each square represents a 25% chance of that outcome:

You can draw your own punnet square for any kind of breeding scenario to figure out the outcomes of a breeding.

• • • • 'Cloning?The cloning feature allows you to create an exact copy of a pet, the clone will start as an egg which you then can splice. You can't clone a clone and it will share the same parents as the original, a cloned pet is considered related to the original pet when it comes to breeding. You can use this feature once you reach level 5 of a species and only on pets that are named.

Cloning is extremely expensive and the reason for this is that it otherwise would risk devaluing other pets. It's a powerful tool that's not meant for everyday use in anyway but can come in handy in some rare cases. *****DNA Profile, what is it and how does it work?DNA profiling allows you to analyze a pets DNA for a fee to see what different genes a pet both carries and shows. You can not only use this on adult pets but also on eggs to determine gender and to make sure you don't splice the pet with a gene that's already showing.

Once you've analyzed a pets DNA you (and all other users) will always be able to see exactly what mutations that pet is carrying in it's profile. You can use this feature once you reach level 5 of a species.

• • • • • 'How do I put a pet up for public breeding?You can put pets up for general breed or for instant breed for a set credit price. You do this in the "Edit" section of the pet's Profile.

If you want to control who breeds with the pet, maybe trade breedings for other breedings and/or for other pets instead of just credits, just click the "Breed" button and the pet will be show as up for breed for other users (the little red heart icon will appear on their image) other users will be able to send you different breed trade offers.

You can also put pets up for breeding too for a set price. By pressing the "-" button next to the "Breed" icon you will get a popup in which you can set a breeding fee. Pets up for breed for a fee can be breed by any one of your friends or members in the same group as you directly, without opening a trade request and without approval from your side for the fee you've set. You can set the fee to 0 for free breeding.******I bred my two pets with the same mutation but got another visible mutation!Normally when you breed two pets with the same mutation, for example Double Tail on the Felines, the offspring is guaranteed to get the same mutation. This since the pet in question has to be either spliced with the gene (making it a dominant carrier – meaning it will always give that gene to its offspring when bred) or have been given that gene from both parents as otherwise the Normal Tail would show.

However, when we go down in the dominance on mutations such as the Platypus Tail (Dominance 70) on the Felines, we have another mutation which is more dominant but still not 100 dominant, meaning that a pet can show the Double Tail (Dominance 80) mutation, but still be a carrier of another more recessive gene such as the Platypus Tail. This since if you breed a Feline with Double Tail to a Feline with Platypus Tail, the offspring will get one Double Tail gene and one Platypus Tail gene, making it a visible Double Tail pet (since Double Tail is 10 more dominant then the Platypus Tail) that is a carrier of Platypus Tail. And when you breed two such pets together there’s a 25% chance that the pet will get the Platypus Tail gene from the parents, making it a visible Platypus Tail pet. And a 50% chance that it will get one of each gene, making it to a visible Double Tail pet carrying Platypus Tail (like it’s parents), and a 25% chance that it will get two Double Tail genes, making it a dominant carrier Double Tail pet.

To make all this with genes, carried genes etc this a bit easier to understand what genes exactly your pet will show, we can use something called “Punnett Squares”. For this example, let’s use the Platypus Tail scenario we just discussed. Both parents carry Platypus Tail and Double Tail, making them visible Double Tail felines. So how do you know that they carry the Platypus Tail? To know that we have to take a look in their pedigrees, if one of their parents in turn show Platypus Tail, we know that our pet has to carry it, like in this case:

Let's call the Platypus gene" P" and the Double Tail "D". So in this case our pet (with spliced in wings which doesn't matter in this case since they're on a different loci) will get a P gene from the mother and a D gene from the father, making her tail loci look like this: PD

This is how we can calculate the various outcomes of the breeding, each square represents a 25% chance of that outcome:

You can draw your own punnet square for any kind of breeding scenario to figure out the outcomes of a breeding.Inbreeding? Why can’t I breed two of my pets together?  ******Either the female is on cool down after a breeding, females have to wait a number of hours between breedings. How many hours depends on the species in question. You can find out the exact cooldown hours at the Lab page. Either that or the two pets are related. If two pets have a common ancestor anywhere in the visible pedigree, the two pets will not be able to breed. *******What pure colors are there?The following colors are considered pure and therefor recognized with a pure dot in the presentation.

Pure Green: #00FF00
Pure Blue: #0000FF

• • • • • • • 'Adding images and other formatting to comments?To add an image to your comment, simply write the image URL. This can be obtained by right clicking the image, choose "Copy image location" and then just paste it in your comment. OviPets will automatically detect that it's an image and display it when posted. The same happens when you post links and they're made clickable automatically.

Notifications, how do I turn them off?Simply click "Show all notifications" in the notifications dropdown (the big number in a box next to the quick search bar at the top) and there in that list you can click the big X button to turn off notifications for that post.

However, if you post in the thread or like it again, the notifications will be turned back

• • • • • • • • 'Why aren't images showing in comments?If you're using a secure connection (your address in the address bar starts with https://) you will only be able to see images that are linked with a https:// connection. If you're using normal http:// you'll be able to see all images.
                

If you're posting external images (not from OviPets) you should try to post from a https:// URL to ensure everyone can see them without problems. If not, users on a secure connection will only see a link, not the image.

Note: OviPets images are automatically converted.  ********Am I a paid user?If you've ever at some point during your time here at OviPets bought credits then yes, you're a paid user.
Even if it was months ago and they're all used up *********Can I receive credits from a trade as an unpaid user?Yes, all users can receive credits.  *********Can’t send credits, why does it say I have to be a paid user to do that?Only users who have purchased credits at some point can send credits to other users. This block was put in place to prevent people from creating multiple accounts and transferring the start-up credits from those accounts to their main account, and thereby getting access to unlimited amounts of credits. **********How do I get more credits?
You can buy them with Facebook credits from the bottom of your Trade page, sell pets or breedings for credits to other users or if you’re lucky find them by turning your friend’s eggs for them. Turning your own eggs will not generate credits.

You can also get credit's from logging in every day thanks to the login bonus. You can read more about that in the login bonus section of the FAQ.

• • • • • • • • • • What is a "login bonus" and how do I get it?
                    If you are active every day (not letting more then 30 hours pass between each OviPets session) for a week you will be able to claim a small bonus at the end of the week. It's random how much you get but you can get between 5-15 credits. You claim your bonus and can also see your progress from your profile page.
                  • 'Why become a paid user?Other then the fact that you get a bunch of credits really fast you also get the ability to send credits to other users, mass feed your pets, you can research level 5 on species and get access to possible limited genes and bonuses.

'You can also create groups and reserve your username so only you can use it. More bonuses to our paid users involve stuff like getting access to some of our new species before unpaid users etc. and more might be added in the future. ***********How do I create my own group?If you wish to make your own group, you have to be a paid player (if you're unsure if you are, check that section in the FAQ). Groups have a small start fee but are after that free to run and you start them from your profile page.

You just click the "Create Group" button in the "Group" section of your profile and proceed. Be careful with what you name your group as the name can't be changed after creation.

How do I edit settings or add a forum to my group?Just go to the "Groups" section of your profile. Press the little "wrench" icon on your group and click the desired button at the bottom of the page, for example the "Activate Forum" button to add a forum to your group.***********How do I find a group to join?You can either join groups your friends have already joined by simply going to their feed page and click on the little icons for groups in the top right hand corner. From there you can click the "Join Group" button if it's an open group or send a request to join if the group is closed.

Otherwise you can use the Search and search for groups in the areas you're interested, for example, if you're looking for fellow Draconis breeders, you'd do a group search for the keyword "draconis". Then a list of groups will appear and you can choose to join the ones which sounds most exciting to you.

You can find yours in your  under "Referrals". As a thank you for helping to spread the word, when you use your referral link you get 5 credits for each user who registers with Ovipets and then an additional 100 credits whenever someone who signs up for OviPets using your link purchases their first credits.All users you've referred will show up in your Referral page, even if they haven't become paid users and you've therefore only received 5 credits for them. You can also directly invite your Facebook friends to join OviPets. Just use the "Invite Facebook Friends" button next to your "View all Friends" button in your feed.
I want to research a new species, but it’s not available on my Lab page?
For more advanced species you need to own a pet of the desired species to be able to research it. If you're lucky you might find one in the Adoption Center, you might be able to trade for one from a friend or by joining a group dedicated to the species in question.
Splicing an egg with genes?
To splice an egg with a mutation you first have to have researched a mutation for that species on your Lab page. Once the research is finished, the mutation will be available when you click the "Lab" button on your eggs profile page (the page you get to when you click the egg). Click the "Lab" button and you will get the option to splice the egg with one of all mutations you've researched for that species.

Think twice before you splice!
Be careful as splicing costs credits and can only be done once to an egg so choose carefully. Also, an egg can be spliced with a mutation the pet would have inherited naturally from it's parents so check the pedigree or do a DNA Profile before splicing.
